What is Medicare?
Medicare is a federal health insurance program that is administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), providing coverage for consumers who are:
- Aged 65 years or older
- Under the age of 65 with certain disabilities
- Any age with amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease)
- any age with end-stage renal disease (ESRD)
Generally, individuals who meet eligibility requirements are enrolled automatically in the Medicare program by the Social Security Administration (SSA) or the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB).

What is Medicaid?
